Learning Management Systems (Blackboard, Moodle, etc.)

Learning Management Systems (LMS) function as an extension of a classroom allowing teachers and students to retrieve/submit assignments, collaborate, among many other capabilities. Teachers have the ability to post documents, videos, presentations, websites, and calendars. An advantage of LMSs is that they provide a secure environment for teachers and students by requiring users to enter a username and password to gain access. Some learning management systems have a licensing fee (e.g., Blackboard, Desire2Learn) and some are free (e.g., Moodle, Sakai).
